Is Mobile Detailing Worth It? Mobile vs. Shop vs. Car Wash
An honest comparison of mobile detailing, shop detailing and automatic car washes — what each costs, what you get, and when mobile makes sense.

For most people, yes — mobile detailing is worth it when you value your time, and it usually costs about the same as a shop. What you're paying for is a real detail (not a wash) without losing half a day to drop-off and pick-up. Here's how the options actually compare.
An automatic car wash is cheap and fast, and it's fine for getting salt off the car in winter. But it's not a detail: it doesn't clean the interior beyond a quick vacuum, and brush-style washes are the number-one cause of swirl marks on paint. If you've ever seen fine circular scratches in the sun, the car wash put them there.
A shop detail gets you a proper detail, but you have to get the car there and back. That usually means arranging a ride, waiting, or losing the car for the day. Shops also carry rent and a building, and that's built into their prices.
A mobile detail comes to you. We work in your driveway, your office lot or your apartment's parking spot while you do whatever you were going to do anyway. Our prices are flat and published: interior from $199, Exterior Wash & Wax from $120 and full details from $249 for a sedan, with larger vehicles priced by size. Every price is in the instant quote.
What do you need to provide? A working water spigot and a standard power outlet within reach of the car for anything that includes the exterior; interior-only details just need power. You also need permission to have the work done where the car is parked — most driveways are fine, and for apartments or workplaces it's worth a quick check with the property manager first.
When does a shop make more sense? If you have no access to water or power at all, or if the work needs a controlled indoor space (body work, paint repair). For detailing, polishing and ceramic coating, there's no quality difference: the products and process are the same, and a coating cures in your driveway just as it would in a bay, as long as the car can stay dry for 24 hours afterward.
How long does it take? Most full details take about 2.5 to 4 hours depending on size and condition. Interior-only is usually a bit quicker, and a ceramic coating is a 6–10 hour appointment. You don't need to stand there — just be reachable and leave us access to the car.
The bottom line: if your time is worth more than an hour or two of driving and waiting, mobile wins. See our services and pricing or check whether we come to your zip code on the home page — we cover from Manassas and Woodbridge through Fredericksburg down to Richmond and Petersburg.
